When 2023 rolled around and AI was gaining a lot of traction for industries of all sorts, we were naturally curious (and cautious) about what this meant for the video production space. In short, AI has helped us tremendously as a video agency in delivering projects faster to our clients. While we do see major advancements in AI and video โ€“ we're confident humans will remain centre stage for this lifetime.

But letโ€™s shine a light on how AI has helped the video production space which not only alleviates pressure from creatives but helps our clients immensely.

In 2024, a video production company can harness AI in various innovative ways to enhance efficiency, creativity, and audience engagement in the work they craft for brands. Here are some approaches to how we at JJW STUDIO have harnessed AI (and yes, thereโ€™s still a human on the other end initiating these advancements):

Scriptwriting and Storyboarding: AI can assist in scriptwriting by suggesting dialogue, story arcs, or even entire scripts based on specified genres or themes. AI-powered tools can also help create storyboards, making the pre-production process more efficient.

Automated Editing: AI can significantly speed up the editing process by automatically cutting footage, aligning shots with the script, and suggesting edits based on the desired tone and style.

Adobe Advancements: arguably Adobe is leading the charge with AI in video production. At JJW STUDIO, we utilise Adobe Audio Enhance which helps cut background noise on any content we might shoot or edit from a smartphone. Adobeโ€™s AI Speech to Text is great for finding specific content mentioned in long-form interviews minimising hours spent sifting through.

Enhanced Visual Effects (VFX): AI can be used to create sophisticated visual effects, including CGI and animation, by learning from existing data sets, thereby reducing the time and cost associated with traditional VFX production. We do see AI taking over the animation space unless VFX houses or solo animators have the utmost distinctive style that AI cannot replicate.

Speech Synthesis and Voiceovers: AI-driven speech synthesis technologies can produce realistic and natural-sounding voiceovers in multiple languages, providing flexibility and cost savings in post-production. While this is a great innovation, we prefer using a real human voice for the work we craft. However, speech analysis is great for captioning in post-production.

Predictive Analytics: By analysing audience data, AI can predict viewer preferences and trends, guiding content creators in making data-driven decisions about themes, styles, and distribution channels.

Automated Colour Correction and Grading: AI algorithms can automatically correct and grade colours in videos, ensuring consistency and reducing manual labour. This is a great tool for much smaller projects, and while a human colour grader is worth their weight in gold, sometimes thereโ€™s a limited capacity to have one in the mix.

Interactive Video Elements: AI can help create interactive video elements, such as branching narratives or responsive content, that change based on viewer interactions. While still in the infant stages, we see interactive videos explode in the coming years as brands understand how they will best work for them.

Efficiency in Resource Allocation: AI can optimise the production process by predicting the resources needed for a video project, such as crew size, equipment requirements, and budget.

While saving time and reducing costs are important, clients gain substantial value from producing a higher volume of content. This is especially true for dynamic creative work, where the aim is to generate numerous variants while maintaining high quality, ultimately enabling personalisation at scale thanks to the assistance of AI.
